Tourism in Gävleborg
Gävleborg has four distinct seasons, which offer a wide range of indoor- and outdoor activities and experiences. The summer season provides nature and wildlife activities. Skiing is very popular in the winter and the region has three downhill resorts and numerous cross-country tracks.
Gävleborg also has a rich cultural heritage, including the region’s industrial heritage with several well-preserved locations, and its renowned Swedish Farmhouses of Hälsingland (Hälsingegårdarna). Seven of the Farmhouses became UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2012.

Primary target groups are WHOPs (Wealthy Healthy Older People) and families with children. The region's visitor strategy also aims to attract MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conferences and Events). The key markets for Gävleborg are Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
Kungsberget Ski Resort, Sandviken
The 6-hectare resort, 25km northwest of Sandviken, is one of Sweden’s best snow parks, with 19 slopes and 10 lifts, several restaurants and newly constructed lodge accommodation for 2,500 overnight visitors. Current investment will continue to upgrade the site from being a ski centre to a comprehensive resort until 2014.
A large visitor and tourist destination is being established in Järvsö, Ljusdal municipality. The town has a Nordic Animal Park and a ski center. Many cottages and apartments have been recently built, a downhill mountain biking park has been added and a water park is currently under development.
Mackmyra Svensk Whisky Distillery, Gävle
Mackmyra Svensk Whisky Village has recently been established in the forest on the outskirts of Gävle. The village includes a 37 m high whisky distillery, warehouse and a restaurant. There are plans to also construct a visitors centre and accommodation on the site.
With its accessible location and good transport links, Gävle has established itself as a meeting and conference city in recent years. The city offers a range of venues to meet the requirements of any conference. Gävle Convention Bureau won the 2011 Swedish Convention Bureau award.
