Sandvik outsources IT services to IBM

Sandvik, a world-leading high-technology group based in Sandviken, announced in July that it is to outsource parts of its IT infrastructure services to IBM. The five-year agreement is worth approximately 2 billion SEK, equating to over US$ 250 million.

Sandvik expects the agreement to provide an increased cost efficiency and quality of IT services, and also secure access to the right skills and competence. IBM will help Sandvik to combine separate IT and business infrastructure into a unified globally integrated, open and responsive system.

The scope of the agreement covers ‘data center’ and ‘workplace’ services. Data center services include the operation of all server platforms, such as hardware, application platform software and facilities where servers are located. Workplace services include the management of office PCs as well as messaging, collaboration, standard applications and second-line user support. All services will be provided by IBM, who under the agreement will also offer employment packages to all Sandvik staff currently working in these areas.
