New recycling facility inaugurated in the Port of Gävle

Stena Recycling inaugurated their new recycling facility in the Port of Gävle today. The facility capitalizes on the port’s excellent accessibility to reduce environmental impacts and enhance Gävle’s industrial waste capabilities.

The facility is estimated to receive around 45,000 tons of waste from the region’s heavy industry, and convert waste materials into high quality raw materials. The industrial waste will consist primarily of iron and other metals, but also waste from the wood products industry.

The facility’s location in the Port of Gävle provides the facility with excellent rail access to and from the site, which avoids the need for truck transport through Gävle, and the associated vehicle emissions and traffic congestion. Its location in the Port of Gävle also provides good sea access for the future export of raw materials.

The facility was previously a waste management facility that Stena have modernized.
