Invest in Gävleborg at the annual Data Centers Europe conference in Nice
Invest in Gävleborg will be profiling the Gävleborg Region’s unique advantages as a location for data centers at the annual Data Centers Europe conference in Nice on 29-30 May 2013.
To meet the growing need for datacenter locations, Business Sweden has initiated a Swedish Datacenter Initiative together with Invest in Gävleborg and other Swedish regions around the country. The initiative aims to identify and highlight potential shovel-ready data center sites, which are in close proximity to the electricity grid and fiber networks.
The initiative is supported by a number of well-known companies, such as the energy giant Vattenfall, fiber-optic network operator TeliaSonera International Carrier and Coromatic, together with experts on datacenter design and operation.
Sweden reinforced its position as a leading global location for data centers in 2011 when Facebook chose Sweden for their first datacenter outside of the US. From an already strong starting-point, Sweden has committed a further US$ 45 billion over the next 10 years for investments in electricity generation including hydropower and the strengthening of the national grid.
