Iggesund Paperboard awarded environmental prize
Iggesund Paperboard has won the industry organization PPI’s “Bio Strategy of the Year” award for its work to improve energy solutions at its Iggesund and UK paperboard mills.
The company has managed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by over 260,000 tonnes in the past 10 years. The measures include an installation of a new recovery boiler and turbine at the Iggesund mill, which has the objective to be completely bio-fuel driven and self-sufficient in electricity and thermal energy.
“We are very pleased with the award, but even more with the transition we have made from fossil fuels to biofuels. We naturally take our responsibility in the climate, but the investment will also give us more stable energy costs over time,” says Arvid Sundblad, Manager of Iggesund’s global sales.
The investment at Iggesund has cost 3.4 billion SEK and is the mill’s largest investment to date.
