Gävle's growing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) sector

As the societal need for geographic information increases, companies selling geographic information and services continue to see strong growth.

“We grew by 10 percent last year,” says Per Carlsson, CEO of the ESRI S-Group based at the Gävle Science Park. The group, which has up to 300 employees, primarily sells GIS software and describes itself as the market leader in Sweden and Finland. “It feels like the flood gates have opened,” says Carlsson on the growing market for GIS and location-based services, “but we need more employees, including developers and GIS engineers with industry knowledge.”

Another GIS Gävle-based company is Metria, which is aiming to double its turnover in the next few years. “We will increase our market share and continue to develop our market offering,” says Erik Oldmark, CEO of Metria. Metria has about 250 employees in total and has one of its main offices in Gävle.

The Gävle area is home to Europe’s leading GIS research and development arena.
