11 percent increase in tourist spending in Gävleborg in 2013

Tourist spending in Gävleborg increased by 11 percent in 2013 compared with the previous year, according to data from the Swedish Tourism Survey.

Total tourist spending in Gävleborg during 2013 increased to 6.7 billion SEK, compared with less than 6 billion SEK in 2012. Goods purchase amounted to half of total tourist spending, accommodation and restaurants accounted for 25 percent, travel and transport for 20 percent, and culture and services for around 4 percent.

Daytrips made by Swedes to Gävleborg resulted in spending of 1.6 billion SEK, which represents an increase of 23 percent compared with 2012.

Gävleborg’s tourist industry employs around 5,000 people (2013), including jobs in accommodation, restaurants, travel, transport, retail, culture and services.

Tourism in Gävleborg is growing and there are great opportunities for investments to meet the demand for accommodation, nature and cultural pursuits, and children’s activities.
